Birthday Party

This is a low light photo taken at a birthday party. Not being able to steady the camera at night is becoming a real problem.

Union Station, Night and Day

These are a couple shots of the same subject but at different vantage points and at different times of day.

The US Supreme Court

I took these shots of the Supreme Court building simply because I noticed that the light was good for it on my walk home from work.

Pryz Portico at Night

This shot of the pryz portico just plainly looks cool to me.

Check out the light versus dark of the composition and the straight versus curved of the structural elements.

High View of the Pryz Stairs... and how unefficient they are

These shots are of the Pryz steps from the third floor. I was trying to show examples of motion through the numerous people walking around and of leading lines through the railings.

Blue Jay

I was walking through campus on day and saw this blue jay. I said what the hell, I'll try to take a few shots of it. None of them came out terribly well because my zoom is inadequate.

S Curve in the sidewalk

I saw this S Curve in the sidewalk and it made me thing of the packet for this week. These shots were taken only in order to capture that effect.

Black and White Part IV

This shot is of a few friends of mine while watching a movie. It combines varying colors and lighting. The photos are Grey Scale, Desaturated, and Original respectively.

Black and White Part III

For day three of BW, I figured it would be good to experiment with something that involved color and lighting. Taking a random picture from the front seat of a car just seemed to work well toward that end. The shots are Grey Scale, Desaturated, and Original respectively. Note how the break lights and the traffic lights looks different in the two BWs.

Black and White Part II

These black and whites are of a puddle on a windy day. I tried to get the cotton candy effect going, but the shots looked over exposed. The photos are Grey Scale, Desaturated, and Original respectively.

Black and White

Two of these images have been turned black and white through photoshop. However, the top one was done so through the Grey Scale tool, and the other through the Desaturate tool. You can see a minor difference between them. Beneath them is the original image.

Shutter Speed

These shots demonstrate shutter speed. The subject is tossing an orange into the air and catching it. The first three images were captured under a 1 second shutter speed. In contrast, the last two are images captured under normal shutter speed. ISO, aperture, and white balance were constant in all shots.

Basilica and ISO

These shots of the Basilica show varying ISO. The shots are taken with 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1600 ISO repectively. White balance, shutter speed, and aperture were constant through all shots.

Aperture through the Observatory Remains

The subject I used to demonstrate aperture is the remains of the CUA Observatory. This structure is located between Centennial Village and Curley Court. Because I'm working with a point and shoot camera, I have only three different aperture options. They are displayed in these shots as Evaluative, Center Weighted, and Spot respectively. ISO, shutter speed, and white balance, were constant between all three shots.

Nothing like booze to demonstrate white balance.

I used this bottle of chilled Goldschlager as my subject to show differences in white balance. The given lighting was from incondescent lightbulbs. As you can see the warmth/coldness of the image is the most obvious difference from shot to shot. The white balance presets corresponding to the photos are as follows: Sunny, Cloudy, Tungsten, Florescent, and Florescent H. ISO, aperture, and shutter speed were constant in all shots (200, evaluative, and normal respectively).
